Difference Between Patiala Suits And Salwar Kameez

A salwar kameez or shalwar kameez is a traditional outfit that over time has been given several variations. The Indian salwar kameez has gone through many modifications in terms of cut, style, length and width of the salwar.

A regular salwar is a loose pyjama-like trouser. Conventionally it is wide from top and has a 5 inch belt attached to the rest of pleated garment. The upper part of the belt has a drawstring to fasten it to the wearer's waist. Normally the waist size of the salwar is almost double the size of the actual waist. The salwar is also very loose at the thigh area for providing good comfort.

The kameez is a long shirt or tunic. The sides of the kameez (also called chaak) are usually left open below the waist to give the wearer comfort. These days the slits of the kameez are also embellished with embroidery and lace.  For More Details : Salwar Kameez

A Patiala salwar (sometimes referred to as pattian walee salwar) is a type of trouser which originated in Patiala, Punjab. The King of Patiala wore a Patiala Salwar and hence the name. This salwar is very similar to the pathani suit. Over the years, the dress is now not worn by men anymore but has been changed to suit women.

The reason why the patiala suits are so popular because it is comfortable and durable in summers. The patiala salwar kameez  is actually a very loose garment that is stitched with pleats. All the pleats of the salwar are beautifully stitched together to meet at the bottom.

Interestingly, a patiala salwar kameez requires double the length of the material. The fall of the pleats and the way the pleats all come together at the bottom distingush it from a regular salwar kameez.
