Grace and glory of banarasi sarees

Banarasi sarees have unmatched grace and beauty. This is because of the high end fabric that is used to create absolutely stunning, intricate woven patterns on the sarees. These well crafted, majestic creations were born and evolved during the Mughal period when Muslim artisans settled in the ancient city of Banaras. Few varieties of  Banarasi sarees online include katan, shattir, organza, jangla, tanchoi, cutwork and butidar.

Here is a quick look at some of the varieties of Indian Banarasi sarees.

Katan
Katan is made by weaving pure silk threads into silk sarees. Katan sarees have very beautiful patterns and motifs on them.

Brocade
Brocades are beautiful rich woven fabrics where intricate patterns are made in silver that are coated with gold. Very superior silk yarn is chosen to create expensive zari brocade. Brocades are also extensively used on designer sarees too.




Georgette
Georgette sarees in this variety are made by weaving fine fabrics with a simple and plain weave. The sarees are most popular in modern types of sarees to make beautiful designer sarees.

Tanchoi
Beautiful paisleys or labyrinth woven in zari make a tanchoi Banarasi saree very valuable. This saree is heavy and can be worn by brides on the biggest day of their life. The pallu of the saree are decorated with breathtaking patterns of paisley.

Jangla
These sarees are elaborate wear woven with the help of colourful silk threads. The name of this saree comes from the intricate Jangala patterns that spread across the length and breadth of the saree. Unique designs, elaborate detailing with very high quality silk is used on this saree.

Butidar Saree
Butidar Banarasi brocade is a rich variety of woven saree that has threads of gold, silver and silk all put together artistically. This saree is also called Ganga-Jamuna. Popular motifs on this saree are Angoor Bail, Latiffa Butti, Reshem Butti, Jhummar Butti and Patti Butti among many more.

Tissue Sarees
These are sarees which are woven on tissue, a very delicate fabric. These delicately woven sarees in golden zari add shine to the saree. One of the most popular designs include lotus floating in a pond. The border and pallu of the sari are done in self colours.
